If you’re diagnosed with a chronic condition, is it pretty much over for being able to do well at an MBB?

Depends on the condition, depends on the MBB

What if you have a chronic condition that prevents you from being able to sit properly and you need to constantly put your leg up? Is it unrealistic to think I can work any competitive job (PE, MBB, etc.) anymore with this life altering condition?

There are always ways to succeed anywhere, but if you have a serious health condition, you may need to redefine what success looks like. I had a stroke when I was pretty young. It changed things for me, but I probably enjoy my job more than most people because I understand the alternative.

Because enough people know my story, a lot of people confide in me. There are people working and doing very well with serious health conditions. But, please, remember you are the only person who can prioritize your health, don’t ignore it. ❤️‍🩹

There’s an element of Bush’s famous quote “the bigotry of low expectations” with this reasoning though.

Depends, generally yes if it’s serious.

Theres more to life than MBB. Health > MBB.

It could be any firm, if that condition impacts you being a consultant or a white collar worker in some way.

No lol more like physical medical conditions

I have been a consultant 38 years. Myself and many of my friends in consulting have some serious health issues. The only thing that matters is results that make the client happy. As long as you can deliver you will be fine. Remember it makes you a disable person which makes you a protected minority.

Fainting spells. Hip replacement needed soon. Some of my consultant friends had cancer and heart issues requiring stints.

Just do your work like everyone else and it will be fine. We as a society need to stop complaining about issues, we all have them, just focus on doing the best you can with your life and stop making excuses for things.

If you can’t walk, or have seizures every other week it will be life altering.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
