With the extensive experience and knowledge that OP, Karla Littke, and Senior Staff 1 have….I think the three of you should start your own consulting firm! Or start a CPA firm and hire a bunch of disgruntled Seniors from Big Four, you’d be off and running in no time 👍
You were president/cfo previously and willing to take a staff auditor role?
Sounds super overqualified but I have seen an audit room full of 50+ year olds at pwc so maybe there’s some precedence on bringing senior citizens on to help with busy season etc
Perhaps a role in a small not for profit? Many small organizations $2mm- $5mm in gross revenue need cfo/controller help.
I'm 58 & don't have near the credentials you have, but I worked for a CPA as an Administrative Assistant for 10 years. I've applied all over the place. Hundreds of resumes sent out.
Zero, zip, zilch. I'm thinking ageism. =(
i mean no offense when i say that the issue i see with this is that you would be taking a spot from fresh grads and less experienced people who actually need the role to gain more experience and move up. on the flip side, kids don't really want to study accounting anymore so there could be room for older folks to take those roles, although firms have also been busy offshoring staff level work. but as others have noted, with your experience and background i don't think staff level would be appropriate; i would look for atleast middle management
Thanks for your comment. The only reason why I was suggesting a lower level is I have been out of public accounting for 36 years and don’t want to be presumptuous. I would love a role as a manager, and stay at that position for the rest of my career, mentoring the younger generation. That would be awesome.
There are also a number of companies that outsource controller/cfo roles. (Yourparttimecontroller). You may find more appreciation for your skills in a role like that.
As seen here, ageism would likely happen in hiring for PA but I also don’t know that a senior auditor role would make the most use of your skills. At that level, your experience understanding the ins and outs of an org may be a mismatch but outsourced accounting may better utilize that experience.
I am 67 Years old and I have a CPA, an MBA and a Masters in Accounting. I have 48 years in the industry. At first glance, my resume looks like I’ve job hopped, but what is not clear on the resume is that the job hopping was because my ex husband was promoted resulting in us moving pretty frequently.
Until now. I’m am just not getting any nibbles at all. Any suggestions?
