I’m a first year associate (I have been here a month and a half), what am I giving for Christmas to others in the office and who should those others be? Thanks in advance!

Have an associate 2 years junior to me with whom I work frequently.. they seem to make an intentional point of not responding to my emails (but promptly responds to client, partner, etc), but 75 percent of time will eventually do what I ask. It has become a distraction. Generally I get good upward reviews - I’m respectful of juniors and expect them to have a life, etc. I’m unsure why the passive aggression. Any tips on handling or do I have to just deal with it? I’m worried about a confrontation

Messed up my public trust eqip. Forgot to list an expunged alcohol charge using a fake id I had in college four years ago bc it was expunged. I realize that I was supposed to report this and told the investigator I honestly didn’t remember because of the expungement. Do I have any chance of getting the public trust now? I already have an interim.

Moderately jealous of all these new first year lawyers posting their swearing in ceremonies with judges they clerked or interned with. I got sworn in by our paralegal wearing at the coffee station because my partner scheduled a CLE I needed to assist with during the ceremonial event. Womp.

Trying to make the move to in house but most of my career has been litigation in various areas of law. I am trying to pick up some transactional work to get more experience. I am a quick learner and have no doubt I can move into more in house areas but it’s so hard to even get an interview to explain. Very few entry level jobs when I graduated and now can only get jobs in the stuff I don’t want to do anymore.

Tips for becoming more independent as you progress from junior to midlevel? I am starting to be put into the position of just having to handle things including drafting and could use some advice from others.

I’m an associate at a boutique firm making under market with 1950 hours req. While I absolutely love the people I work with, and I can handle the hour requirement, the work I actually do is just not my cup of tea (abt 80% insurance defense). I’m hoping to lateral to a bigger firm with lockstep or close to lockstep comp and generally more resources/better mentorship opportunities in the business lit./commercial lit. space. Any tips for going about successfully making the switch?

Curious to know what other firm's bonus structures are, particularly those with 1900 billable requirement and below. Trying to figure out if my firm's structure is the norm or if the associates are getting screwed.

Just verbally accepted an offer to become the newest partner at a much bigger firm in town after 5+ years slaving for a smaller firm that told me they would only “let” me be of counsel (and pay rent equal to my current salary) or stay an associate. HELP! I’ve been contacted by a small private security firm who wants me to be their “on call” counsel. They describe it as a lot of contract review, drafting NDAs, etc. but also being there if/when they need to license a vehicle, defend civil suit, etc. It’s overwhelming but sounds like a really great opportunity. I have enough background to be comfortable with contracts and litigation, but don’t want to get myself into a mess. Has anybody else ever had a job like this?

Any tips on leaving a firm “correctly”? Was about to go “of counsel” with my firm of 6 years, but then another firm whose partners I really respect (and personally like) offered me a partnership position. I predict my current bosses will *flip* (cut off file access immediately, try to beat me to calling my clients, etc.), so how do I set myself up for a successful transition?
