I’m a first-year associate in R&D Tax at a mid-market firm, but I’m realizing I’m more interested in systems, controls, and tech. I minored in Internal Audit, have a Master’s in Analytics, and I’m currently studying for the CPA (ISC section). I’m looking to pivot into IT Audit, Tech Risk, or Internal Audit—ideally through an internal transfer or at another firm. Has anyone made a similar move early in their career? Would love to hear how you did it.

I feel like this pivot is very doable. Back when I was in in audit IT audit was always looking for ppl just cause nobody wanted to go into it (the good ones got tricked into it shoutout KPMG lol)

I wanted to do this out of grad school and was planning to do it but last minute was like maybe need to explore other areas of public so I’m not settling. I’ve been studying for ISC and have been more fascinated with IT Audit over R&D Tax Credits. I also studied for the CISA when in grad school and have debated picking that back up and taking that exam soon.

There’s always a need for IT Audit folks. Each firm calls it something different, there are external and internal IT audit groups.

KPMG calls the external audit group Tech Assurance. internal IT audit is in Internal Audit & Controls

Looking for opinions. I’m an IW with 2 yrs experience working from home at a Fortune 500 company w/ excellent benefits, target salary 75k. I was previously offered a job at another company where the 75k salary was guaranteed for the first year. Most people make much more than this once their comp fully ramps up, but, I would have to work in the office. I declined the offer, but now the CEO wants to meet with me several months later. Would I be crazy if I asked for 100k guaranteed salary?

I'm currently working with Deloitte USI as a Proposal analyst and got an offer from CTS with decent hike and hometown location as a Senior Business Development Analyst. Will it be a good move considering work life balance, job security and work pressure keeping in mind the recent resession and attrition.

How does one most effectively make the transition into management from an Individual Contributor?

I've been an individual contributor for 4 years in Tech, have 8 years of experience total. I'm finding it difficult to make the management transition despite having management experience, performing beyond expectations, and having a genuine passion for enablement and development.

I'd appreciate any success stories or pointers you can offer in regards to this transition.

For people that are on the fence about the industry, I tell them to try another district. You know what you did and didn't like about your school so you can go in armed to see what another school is like. Don't be afraid to see the school, ask for a tour, talk to the teachers. Sky's the limit!
