No one could fault you for feeling discouraged at times. The current job market is awful, and there's no getting around the fact that you have to put up with a lot of rejection. Trying to land a job is a competition and most of the time it's disappointing. You just have to accept that as the reality and shake off the rejection and keep moving forward.
It’s an uphill battle for sure I applied over 60 times to the same place before I landed my gig. you just have to keep going, you only need 1 yes!
Many graduates seem to have a similar issue. I do recommend Robert Half firm. Ask your college if they have any kind of internship connections.
It’s been 11-12 years since I’ve done this. But I applied to anywhere from 80 - 120 jobs during my final year in college. I didn’t come from a fancy university and i definitely knew a lot of people who were way smarter than me who didn’t land a job right after uni. Perseverance my friend :)
I commend you on everything you're doing, I definitely didn't have to fight that hard when I first got started in my career and I'm sorry for young people who are having to fight so hard. Have you looked into contracted and/or temp work? I have heard that that can be a good way to get your foot in the door since entry-level positions are so dang hard to land these days. Hang in there!!
The job market is really rough right now. I have several friends that have been looking for over six months and haven't been able to find anything. Hang in there and keep networking for referrals.
Tough job market for sure. But maybe adding desired location and background could help
We’re up against the ATS system (the machine) now, and it’s tough. You have to pay close attention and learn how to get through it. I’m figuring it out little by little.
You're not the only one my friend. Keep your chin up. I'm in the same boat as you are only much older. It makes me feel that everything I have done my entire career has been for nothing.
A lot of people are getting jobs from LinkedIn. Instead of adding that annoying banner, try this:
Open your profile.
Click “Open to” – select “Finding a job.”
Add job titles (entry-level).
Scroll down.
Press “Save.”
**This helps recruiters know you’re looking and can improve your chances.
I definitely owe you all an update on my job hunt. After months of applying, interviewing, and sometimes venting here, I really want to thank everyone who encouraged me to keep going, it meant a lot in those tough moments.
One Monday morning, while I was still feeling pretty down, I got an unexpected call from a manager. She said she saw my resume on LinkedIn and had even heard good things about me from people at other companies where I had interviewed. She mentioned an open position at her branch, and we ended up doing the interview right then and there. Within a week, I had the job.
The amazing part? I never even applied for this role. After sending out thousands of applications and going through so many interviews, the opportunity that worked out was the one God placed in my path.
Today marks one month since I started, and I can honestly say I love it. Thanks again to everyone who gave me advice and encouragement along the way it truly helped.
This is great news! Congrats on the role and best wishes
You have power over your mind not outside events realize this and you will find strength.
God didn't allow you to go through the frustration and the feelings of one failure after another, w/o a return on your investment. He is giving you this time to 👉get your mind right👈.
God never intended you to chase a paycheck. He wants you to chase a purpose.
What is your purpose?
Find that, and you'll be closer to your dreams becoming reality.
I'm on a similar journey.
When I graduated from a supposed top STEM program, it took me a long while to get a job despite my OPT approval coming late as well. I was stressed as someone on a visa, had to volunteer at some point to remain on status. Despite all the rejections, just one yes made all the difference.Just keep hanging in there.
