I'm actively job searching, and recruiters often call me during my work hours. It's difficult to discuss my current role discreetly from the office, and I can't easily step out without someone noticing. I've asked, but recruiters are unwilling to call outside of their standard work hours, not even for a quick chat during my lunch break or after I leave the office. What's the best way to handle this?

Find a new recruiter if that is someone who is working with you. If it’s just a random recruiter who found you, just put your feet in the sand. Tell them you really are interested, but you’re not willing to risk your current employment for them and their client.

One of two things will happen. They will accept it, appreciate your position, and work with you. Or they will move on to one of the other 500 people they sent a LinkedIn message to yesterday

Ask them to call you at a specific time. That does work. I’ve had situations where the time agreed upon went over or we had to reschedule but you can usually text them as well.

Any recruiter I've ever dealt with asks if it is ok to talk and always reach out at a better time

I always ask them to call me at specific times. I normally take my lunch at noon so I will let them know if they call between noon and one I can answer. I would try to give them a time to call you.

It’s rough trying to juggle both. Lately, I’ve been using my car as a quiet spot during lunch and calling from there. It’s the only way I can keep things discreet without skipping important calls.

I recently switched job and joined another B4 firm. As part of the hiring I was promised with a sign on bonus. Now I have received the sign on bonus twice, in back to back paychecks. I know I have to somehow return the second bonus to the firm. Does anyone know how taxes work on this? As both the bonuses were tax deducted prior to deposit, when I return amount do I need to pay back the withheld taxes to the firm as well? Asking as the amount is big and don’t want to go in the IRS route. TIA.

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time
