I’m all for moving up the ladder however this lateral move that I’m hoping to work on will get me into a BETTER role. And for that I am here for it!

Would you do a lateral move if it meant you were in a better role?

Obviously. That's the only reason to lateral. Your career is a long-term game. If temporarily stagnating via lateral move sets you up for future success, you do it.

Correct. Just people at work are hardcore judging that I’m not chasing the bag

Of course! Better role means easier to climb the latter in the future

This!!! I appreciate the back up. Folks at work think I’m stupid for choosing life over wallet. But I’m literally happy with my salary

Less of a lateral and more of a half step up, in my opinion. Don’t pay too much attention to always needing to move up. Sometimes that “lateral” move will do more for you than waiting around for something else.

Different things work for different people. I think certain people are crazy for chasing the money when the responsibility and work far outweigh what they make. Happy to be comfortable, and honestly happy for whatever anybody wants to do.

Yes—I’m actually trying to find a lateral role. I want to learn something new and I’ve learned this is likely the only way to get a decent raise at my company (even if it’s only like $10k more)

Hi everyone. I’m a front end software engineer. I’m interviewing next week for a solutions engineer at a company I really like, which I mistakenly applied for as I saw they needed ReactJS, JavaScript, HTML/CSS. Upon reading the job description, it’s clear I will be doing a lot of sales and client consulting over actually coding. I know they have a FE SWE role open. How would you approach asking the recruiter if there are any SWE openings I could be considered for instead ?

Is Federal/Public Sector consulting fulfilling work? I'm at a tier 2 consulting firm right now focused on retail clients, and I just feel like there is zero point to this work. Its all about increasing sales of a product that people could easily live without. As an Associate, I just move boxes around on PPT slides all day. Looking for better WLB and fulfillment in my work, thinking that might be Public Sector work.

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.
