I’m already getting jaded with my career and starting to wonder if something easier is a better career trajectory. Has anyone been able to stick to their “dream” role or does the uncertainty win over?

I think we all feel that way sometimes. If work were fun and easy, they probably wouldn't pay us, lol. You don't always have to love your dream job or your dream industry. Sometimes it's just enough to get through the day.

like

Yeah true, I’ve always been in the camp of it’ll always be a job, would be nice to enjoy it a lot too.

That’s when I have to have a serious talk with myself and figure out what is causing the uncertainty. Jumping into something else could be a much needed change, or something that is more of the same.

like

Yeah the change is always nice, I hate stagnation and doing something new is great.

I’ve been searching for my ‘dream’ role for a few years since university- I’m now in the industry but it’s going to take a while to move up but if you have aspirations then stick with it and see what happens!

Yeah true it also says something to stick to it! It can be draining though sometimes.

I've been able to stick with my dream role for 20 years and sometimes it's stressful but generally it has been 'fun and easy' as someone put down earlier but that is because I work in my interest and passion. Industry changes, mass layoffs and relocating to an area where my skills are not helpful has created uncertainty.

What I am doing is taking a good break down of what my skills acutally are and they're not all 'creative' but technical which can translate over to other industries with some training. If you have an income great this is where you can put the effort in to learn or pivot those strengths into other jobs and careers.

That’s so lucky! Yeah I think I need to analyse what my best skills are and if I want to use them in the future.

There's an idea that we can each define an "A" job, "B" job, "C" job etc. A being the one you'd LOVE to have and which would fulfill personal goals, visions etc AND pays great. B is maybe a stepping stone to that A job. and C job pays the bills, isn't terrible, and you know that it's temporary (or plan for that anyway).

Hi all,
I just moved here so this might be a dumb question so please don’t judge. Why does my laundry smell like pee and how can I fix it? I used a common washer and dryer in my building. Hey fishies! I’m looking to take a leap into the remote world. I am a Sr. Graphic designer and art director in Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦. I’m looking to take on more of an art director and creative director role, remotely. I can attach my website and a portfolio if anyone can help out. I have been designing professionally now for just over 15 years now. I work very quickly and very well with other team members. I also take on freelance work. I’m married with 2 kids so the more work the better.

Graduated in 2020, wanted to be a graphic designer, took a job at a startup in a social media role. The boss called me the "r" word for not handling entire 13-ish accounts roster well by myself. I quit. Found a role as social media specialist. Realized (again) that I hate social media. Moved to in-house mktg manager, only to be a glorified graphic designer / someone to call the city to cut down trees. I job hopped too much, I feel my portfolio is empty. How do I restart again? I feel defeated.
