Models go through a lot of discipline and hardwork too. Just imagine you have to maintain only one thing to make you keep your job. And you have to sacrifice eating your favorites and your time because you have to hit the gym almost everyday. Isn't it sad?
They would almost have to. There's so much pressure.
Well, on the one hand, isn't it fabulous that your looks alone (the way you were born) get you a job? You have people, your job, and the industry telling you that you are good-looking; models would feel great about their looks.
On the other hand, they must work and sacrifice as much as any other job to maintain those looks. Discipline is key.
It's a lot of pressure from what I've seen and I think knowing that you have a short shelf life in terms of modeling opps, it's about making as much money as you can and getting out
My best friend was a model for years and is one of the most self-conscious people I have ever met. When she would receive a compliment on her appearance, her thoughts would go to things like "they wouldn't say that if they knew I gained half a pound." Leaving the industry was the best thing imaginable for her.
That is a really good point. I have never really thought about it. But I am sure that having your appearance constantly criticized is very mentally draining I am sure.
Constantly having your appearance be nitpicked, I can see how that would take a toll on even on those outside the modeling industry. Being compared incessantly to many other people could lead to unhealthy thoughts and habits so I guess being a model isn't as glamorous as it's painted out to be.
I've read numerous articles about this and it is actually true. Models have it far worse in terms of body dysmorphia, this is also true with ballet dancers. They are both jobs which require a certain weight in order to be successful. Tyra Banks has been feeding on these insecurities her whole career in her hit tv show
I would believe so because most of the time their success relies on their looks. People in the industry can be mean and outright rude. So it is not a surprise that models develop mental health problems
I think so. I've read in a magazine that body dysmorphia is also common with models. Some of them also struggle with ED to maintain their appearance.
I hope they don't feel that way, but I am guessing they constantly do. it's a sad fact that their work culture permeates. wish it wasn't that way though
