I’m an early tenure EM at McKinsey’s PE practice with mix of transactions (30%) and portfolio work (70%). I want to end up in PE Ops but in 2-4 years, done with McK and looking outside now. Would spending a few years in industry roles (corporate strategy, corporate dev, and chief of staff) negatively affect my chances of landing PE Ops roles, vs applying now? I assume it’s better than staying to make AP given real industry exposure outside but want to gauge with folks in PE Ops
