Which position is it for? Last minute location change is very odd and they may offer a different salary?
Moving to a new state is a big life decision, if the money is good it may be worth it
I'm employed but don't want to move to Atlanta. I think my dilemma is I want to know the most likely route I could take so that I could get the job designated for my preferred location. Either bring it up now or bring it up after I have more leverage with the offer.
1.) DC is in a higher pay band than the Atlanta office. So, Visa would like to save a few bucks by sending you to Atlanta.
2.) VCA is clustered around three main offices in the USA. San Francisco, NYC, and Atlanta. The new location strategy is to keep every team member in their hub area/city.
3.) The DC office has been full since the first day we moved in, about 2 or 3 years ago.
4.) My impression of the DC office is that it caters to people who work closely with the government or federal workers. Unless, you want to ask to work from the Ashburn office. The Ashburn office is a mixed bag.
P.S. I don’t work for VCA, nor do I interact with them either. Therefore, some information may be incorrect. These are my impressions only.
@EY From what I’ve seen, most hiring managers don’t mind as long as you’re based in a Visa office that falls within the same salary band as the posted role. I believe Ashburn and Atlanta are in the same band, though I could be wrong since I’m not in HR.
That said, HR rolled out a new directive about four months ago cracking down on employees who aren’t working from their team’s designated hub locations. Given that, it’s completely reasonable to ask or confirm whether working out of the Ashburn office is acceptable for this role.
Layoffs have been thing. I have seen 4 rounds and I just got hit in the 5th after over 10 yrs of employment amd serious dedication. Working employees like dogs. Disrupting teams by changing them constantly. Only caring about their metrics. Its no longer a dream company to work for trust me.
