I hear you. It's ridiculous. The scammers have gotten so sophisticated too, so it's even harder to know what's real and what isn't. One group went so far as to build an entire website that mimicked the real company they were trying to impersonate. It's insane.
I know that is out there that is why you should apply to store that you know and don't give out vital information. they can have that at the interview or when hired
It’s a legitimate concern. You have to be careful who give private information to. I would never give my Social Security number over the phone or any payment information over the phone. I would insist on going into the office to do that kind of paperwork.
The moment I posted on Linkdin that I was back in the job market a potential scammer DMed me. It was a woman claiming to be a recruter. She said she ran my resume through an analysis tool and that if I didn't modify it I'd never get anywhere. And it just so happened she knew someone who could help me.
just don't give them vital information and treat them as a scam unless you got to the company web site and apply
