any telltale signs of layoffs in tiger?
My post is for a lot of folks here who complain about managers not budging to negotiations and not offering package ,what you are expecting.I have one thing to say, there are lot of ibm employees who moved to kyndryl. Inspite of lot of contributions they are earning meagre salary. Now do you expect these people to hire you for more package most of time the package you are demanding is more than what these managers draw. So pls do not look at kyndryl as any other startup.Thanks.

Gosh you’re young don’t worry so much about stability it doesn’t exist these days. People get laid off all the time. You need to build experience and resume. That’s how you grow as a young professional. If you’re not happy where you are than you have nothing to lose.
Hmm.. Idk about that. Stability doesn't exist, but being poor AF from being laid off does. Also, as a young professional, job hopping doesn't attract a LOT of employers.
I left an agency for a contract in big tech in April, it was the best decision I could’ve ever made and if we weren’t in a recession, I would say yes take the contract! However, comments above are correct. All contractors at my job were let go 2 weeks ago and now I’m left unemployed. I know it’s hard to not jump at that opportunity, but wait a little bit till things get better then open yourself up for opportunities!
Very true!
I would not take a contract (ever, but *especially* right now) if you're not comfortable with it ending early or with a period of unemployment following the contract. The economy is really concerning right now with a lot of tech companies laying off full-time staff, and I'm rather surprised TikTok is even bringing on contractors - most companies are laying them off. If you can handle the instability and likelihood of losing the job, it might be worth the pay increase - but if you're at all concerned about that, I wouldn't make the jump right now.
(I'm old and worked in a contract role for a big name back in the 2008 recession. It was meant to be a year contract and I got laid off after 4 months along with the majority of the other contractors. I saw the writing on the wall and was able to get a new job right away, so if you do move forward with the contract I'd encourage you to keep abreast of other opportunities just in case.)
Hello! Thank you for posting! This is coming from a Senior Technical Recruiter who has been a contractor for over 7 years.
I highly recommend against it. The pay is higher because you won't be able to afford benefits with the contract job, secondly, we as contractors get looked extremely down upon because most companies/ heads don't understand contracts.
Your job as a contractor is EXTREMELY unstable and with the layoffs happening left and right you can quite literally take that job and be unemployed within a month and then you're left to fend for yourself.
If you are able to do it take the contract and keep your staffing job and work both simultaneously.
If not just wait until the market gets better. But I can assure you having a big tech company on your resume doesn't make or break anything.
I was just laid off from Microsoft due to their vendor layoffs, I was supposed to be there for 18 months and it ended in 5.
So I do not recommend.
Hello. $25 for agency is really good. I would get about a year of experience there if you can. Then go for in house recruiter at a big company. Much better pay, culture, and benefits switching from agency to in house recruiter.
Take the Tiktok gig and then work harder than anyone else in the room. Good luck!
That depends on you. I did agency work for several years. I started to hate it and did some contract work. While I didn’t stay at that company for long (too long to list), that opportunity lead me to my current job and I’m happy now. I would say what is TikTok’s long-term plan and can you position yourself in the market again 6 months from now.
I would say it depends on what you want to do. If you’re looking to join big brands - get it!
If you’re interested in recruitment, taking a sourcing role won’t help you in your next move. You’ll lose traction in your career, as this is a step back. You’ll only be able to get another entry level recruitment role once you move on from this sourcing contract
i think it’s worth the risk. you can always go back to agency if you need.
Go for it!!!
I was in a similar situation, waited another 6 months and got a year long contract offer for $51/hr at a more stable company. I would wait.
Can you do both? Just different hours…?
Do it!
I am a huge believer in the temp to perm route. It gives you a chance to prove yourself (more often than not, contractors get converted)
And you get to test the company to see if it’s somewhere you want to be. More of a try before you buy mentality. Plus hourly pay = overtime ;)
You got this!
I know many people (mostly IT & Healthcare) that only work contracts and many are offered perm. staff roles or they just keep extending the contract for them if they're a good culture fit and they produce. Plus, TikTok is not going anywhere. I can say that I used to feel the same way about contract work, seemed too uncertain and I like certainty but the truth is many companies go this route now. Many places extend the contract or make the person a W-2 employee.
