That's what I've been thinking. Less competition and fewer applicants could mean that teams that are urgently hiring may be even more responsive if they aren't inundated with so many applications. I think it just depends on how much you need the holiday break. I'd give yourself a short period of solid rest, but maybe try to keep applying 50% of the week.
It doesn't matter if things sit in someone's inbox until January. You might as well get applications in while you can. Some may stop taking applications when they reach a certain number, so by dawdling you put yourself at a disadvantage. In this job market you need to every possible edge, so it makes more sense to get the applications in promptly.
My company was bought by a larger clinic who agreed to hire all the employees from the previous job. Everyone transition October 1, but I stayed behind to help close the books and the end of the year. On December 15, two people from the company that bought our doctors office said they did not have a position for me to fit into. After they have already hired me after they had already told me what my position would be.
