It seems like that would depend on how well you know the acquaintance. If it's someone you don't know very well at all, it might be presumptuous to ask for an introduction. It might be more diplomatic to make contact and ask if they're familiar with the person you'd like to be introduced to. That way you can feel out the acquaintance and assess how open they might be to introducing you to the person. Ideally, they'll say they know the person and they'll offer to introduce you.

It’s very awkward! Recently made some connections and also wanted to immediately ask a favor for introductions. I just came out and said it. Look, I know we barely know each other, but I was wondering… Also offered to have a chat beforehand. They did introduce me, not sure that is my go-to, but sometimes you just have to go out on a limb.
