Benadryl after letting them run ragged
Rising Star
My thoughts:
If it’s an overnight, Benadryl/melatonin - but make sure you test them first at home that they actually work.
Daytime flight
- my spouse is a last to board person, I am a first to board (get settled, overhead bins packed). If we’re flying together, one of us boards first all the bags, the other waits till the last minute with the little one (we have a 7 and 2.5 year old, so the older one boards first with whichever parent).
- have a stroller and carrier with you. We gate check our full size stroller (uppababy Cruz with travel case. Took some practice, but we are now pretty comfortable getting pack away and set back up in less than 2 mins. We prefer the full size for the storage/carry capabilities that umbrella strollers don’t have.
- if you’ve sized out of the stroller, or simply don’t have capacity to carry it, invest in a ride on suitcase. Trunkii are expensive but durable.
- any and all screen rules go out of the window. If they can watch 2-3 movies on a 5 hour flight, that’s awesome. We go back to see my family in Europe 1-2 times a year, and took a break for a year with the little one because it’s easier if they can watch tv for 7 hours.
Bring stickers, crayons and coloring books, fav stories. Your kid will likely be excited from everything that is going on around.
My 3 yo flew for 16 hours with once connection with 0 tears, like a champ. She had a blast and loved every second of it. She is a very emotional and sensitive curious kid, but our experience was the smoothest.
Get some dry snacks, take cotton buds or headphones to reduce the air pressure effect from the ears, finger puppets, story books, that your baby likes, reusable slates where the baby can scribble… don’t over do feeding… keep 3-4 extra bibs, don’t keep full body suits but prefer top and bottoms so whichever is dirty, you can change… socks and 1 pair extra, it get cold in flight. Keep vomiting and fever medicine handy. Mosquitoes cream, bandage. Also, parents should keep one pair of T-shirts extra just as a precaution… just in case baby decides to puke.. and due to less space it will be your shoulder and T-shirt… all the best!
Yea we do our best to let our little one run and run in the airport so by the time we board she is very sleepy. We bring snacks and crayons and her tablet to keep her occupied but usually she will get tired enough that she will sleep for the majority of the flight. Best of luck to you momma, you have got this.

I flew with my toddler in April. We booked an evening flight so we would take off right around bedtime. Lots of running around the airport before we got on the plane. Lots of snacks, books, and an iPad. We didn’t actually need any of it, though - we gave her some milk as we took off so her ears would pop. She passed out as soon as we were in the air and slept the entire flight 👍

Was on a flight with the most well behaved 1yo. This was baby’s 6th flight and was 4h.
The parents entertained her with nothing but a teddy bear, some walks and chattered with her. During take off and landing they gave her a bottle.
