Stupid question: do you get to alt-travel? Not fly home to your home office on the weekends, but use that budget to fly somewhere else?

Yes. Clear it with your manager.

like

Yes. No need to clear with manager

like

All the time. Not even need to ask for preapproval. Just give your engagement manager a heads up

like

Yes, and again, clear it with you manager.

Yes. I do it quite often.

Yes. You ask to see of others are doing it? Or are you being denied?

Do we pay taxes on the alt travel expenses?

Yes per tax law. The IRS considers it additional compensation (essentially a funded vacation instead of sending you home) so it’s taxed. But still it’s worth it.

If you file them as alt travel. As regular flights no

Yes. Never had to clear with manager provided the airfare is less than cost to send me home

Joining a big firm next week as fully remote lateral and flying out to home office for orientation. The schedule has me in office until 4:15. I’ve already been told I won’t have any actual work. Depending on how many people are there and how it feels, I was planning to stay an hour extra but should I hang around the office until later? First time visiting this city so it’d be great to take in some sights too (although that’s not a priority of course).

Any resume writer referrals? I’m trying to make the jump into project management. I have 13YOE managing cross-departmental projects and people, and I’d like to shed the general EA work of calendars/travel/expenses. But recruiters just see my most recent role is EA and that’s all they want to talk to me about. I’m hoping a better written resume will help target algorithms to get my resume viewed for other roles.

Our team got a new manager last week. Today, he asked all of us to share our calendars with him. Reason he gave: he wants to forward some of our meetings to a new colleague so that she can join and learn.
What do you think about this? I find it intrusive and controlling. He could just ask us to invite her to calls.

Anyone else in consulting feel like you don’t have principals/partners that stand up for you? On a project where the project team (including our principal) and client sponsors collaborated on an awesome roadmap and the client leadership (aka PEG) wasn’t buying it. The principal on the project didn’t say a word when we reviewed it with the PEG to help back us up. Back to square 1. How do you all address this?
