You probably are, even with the LCOL. That's a massive paycut to absorb. I'd go to the in person interview just to see if you can impress them to the point of at least meeting your current salary. But if not, I wouldn't be packing up and moving to lose that kind of money.
They may think that you’re giving them a salary outside of your current range because that’s usually what candidates do. $35,000 less I wouldn’t even be posting on here. I would’ve told them no and moved on.
You should never state your current salary during an interview. There’s absolutely no reason they need to know that. And most of the time they use it against you to lowball you on the offer. Never tell them. If they ask, tell them that’s proprietary and you won’t be sharing it. And it’s a big red flag if they ask and insist on knowing.
Live and learn, never reveal your salary. In some states and cities potential employers aren't even allowed to ask. It's possible that because of the cost of living the salary was going to be low anyway. Still, I suspect you're right that they're lowballing you. If you're interested in the job, you can try to negotiate, it's possible the salary cap is not absolutely ironclad.
