I’m starting a new job that’s in office 2 days per week (back to back days) and coming from a fully remote job. How can I prepare for the social exhaustion these days and lack of focused work time at my own pace?

Hopefully, my desk is in a quiet area and by quiet people 👀 it’s makes all the difference!

Bring a good headphone. A big one. With noise cancelling function. It helps tremendously to feel isolated enough to stay focused and in flow. You're going to be alright! Most people feel the same way as you and have gone through this, so they understand your struggle.

I better not have a desk facing the hallway or I’ll be wearing those headphones all day

I would suggest going in with the attitude of being patient. Being back in the office can take some getting used to. If things start to annoy you, see if you can shrug them off. I expected being back in an office to be maddening, but once I got used to it things weren't so bad. And some of the camaraderie I actually like. It's kind of amazing how easily we can adapt to changes.

AM1 - not sure if I’m reading your comment right. Are you saying RTO made you feel like you’d rather go back to college?
Or are you saying that returning to the office felt like a college reunion?

Uh, the social dynamic is why RTO is a thing. Plan your meetings for those days. Meet with your team or disciplines leads. Get to know how those you work with think and interact.

Going into the office to sit on a corner and operate as you do at home defeats the purpose. We arent meant to work as drones off in caves, collaboration is real.

Signed, a 30-something parent who did the 5 day a week thing and also loved remote work more than you'd ever know.

The best you can do is not to over think 😄

Trying my best 🙃

I agree with IBM1, I would make sure you bring a pair of noise cancelling headphones. The person who sits next to me likes to chomp on ice all day and it literally drives me insane. I would not make it without my Bose headphones.

I’ve got about 20 years cross channel experience in marketing, split between big brands and startups, and I’m considering pivoting into a data science/data analyst role. I know it will initially be a step back in comp but is it at all realistic for a person with certificate level experience in data analysis but a decent marketing management background to expect $150-200k comp or is that mostly for degreed candidates (or not realistic at all)? Any guidance here is greatly appreciated.
