In a similar situation OP. But trust me He’s real. And He cares about your circumstance and has an awesome plan for your life regardless of how the situation looks.
From scripture and personal experience I can tell you that Faith and feelings DO NOT mix. Trust God and cast by our cares and anxieties upon him. Also - I’m job searching right now. What are you looking for? Happy to lend a hand and help you with whatever I can.
Are you basing your hope on yourself and your experience or on God and what He has done for us? Biblically, we’re promised trials and persecution for following Jesus Christ, but we’re also promised a Comforter who provides peace that passes all understanding. I’m in the same unemployed boat, but I know my (and your own) identity / value / worth / reputation does not rest on what I or others think of me or you, OP! They rest on God. I hope these references help: Romans 5:1-11, Matthew 7:21-27, 1 John 1:5-2:6, Matthew 5:1-12
Hey OP! I’ve been in a place where I didn’t have hope - the below things helped me but happy to talk if you want to. Don’t give up, friend, the messages above are spot on.
1. I talked to my doctor and a therapist. One offered wisdom, the other offered anxiety medication. Meds won’t solve your problems, but they were one tool that helped me not go to extremes when I was down.
2. I went to church and built a community. Some wks I showed up late and left early so
I didn’t have to talk with anyone but over time the community helped me feel more hope and less isolated.
3. Don’t forget in the dark what you knew to be true in the light.
4. He loves you and won’t let you go, no matter what your employment status.
OP just remember God gives us trials to test our faith. You may be unemployed but believe me YOU will be employed in Christ name. “I’d rather walk alone with God in the dark, than alone in the light”
Hey OP,
Let’s take a step back and remind ourselves of how good God is.
You’re on this app because you can afford the technology and WiFi. I’m assuming you’re belly isn’t crying out for food. I would also assume you are in good health and have shelter. These are all gifts from God. They may seem small but they are from our Heavenly Father. He knows the number of hairs on your head. He knows what you need without asking. Have faith he will continue to provide for you.
Please shift your focus from what God hasn’t done to what he has done and plans to do do for you. Praise Him and have your spirit restored. I pray He brings you peace and comfort wherever you are. Remember He is our provider, peace, and is LOVE.
With sisterly love in Christ.
Wow! Such great wisdom on this thread but I know what you need is a job. My parish actually has a jobless community that meets weekly at a donut shop. The best part about it is that it’s usually a handful of unemployed people and a dozen employed people looking to pick up the phone. Our deacon has made employment his personal mission.
Don’t be ashamed to try your faith community. I experienced this early in my career and it sucked.
Feel free to DM me. I live in SoCal and happy to help
God loves you so much! He is big enough for all your questions. You will get through this OP.
D1 is right, feelings and truth don’t always align.
Whenever I feel like this, I try to make a list of what is true. God is real. He created me. He loves me. He keeps his promises. He has a hope and a future for me.
I know this is pretty simplistic, but it helps me. I’ve been unemployed, raised by narcissists, and have had major medical problems. And yes I’ve felt complete hopeless and alone before too. Sticking to the simple truths has kept me sane. The Creator loves you.
Reaching out to people is important too. Is there anyone at church, a close friend, therapist?
