Try working with someone who’s young enough to be your kid. 😭😭😭
Haha I feel this so hard. I'm 35 and feel like a dinosaur compared to everyone else here, most of whom are 30 or younger. Life comes at you fast 🫠🫠
No, I don’t hate working with people bc of their age. Who cares you had to change a team outing? This isn’t a big deal and is more on you than it is them and something they have no control over.
You definitely are not old. I am one of the younger ones on my team but I always get along well with people older than me. People older than me tend to work harder than people my age.
I was one of those young ones once, but I loved working with older ones. I think they loved working with me too. But I clung to them as a mentor and wanted them to teach me everything they knew and I'd also teach them on new tech. I think they appreciated having someone recognize their knowledge and skills and want to learn from them. But now I'm the older one and I'm finding the young ones now come in thinking they know it all and anything I as an older one have to share is obsolete. There are some young gems that do have the same attitude as I had and they have been a joy to work with. I'm 42 now, they are 26 and 22. I've been teaching them and they taught me as well. When there is an exchange of knowledge between the old and young the work experience has been the most rewarding for me. But I still don't get young ones always having headphones on. I learn a lot just my listening to the conversations around me, I learn who knows the most in specific areas, or what new tech is coming our way etc. I do think the young miss out on a lot of learning when they have headphones on all day. But that's me.
age is just a number! Working with younger teammates keeps things fresh and fun—even if I end up being the ‘grown-up’ sometimes.
