I think it's the company that's not supposed to make a profit.
Ugh scam city. So many of these non profits exist for no other reason than making their leadership filthy rich. For many, a tiny percentage of their total revenue actually makes it to the intended cause.
That’s not how nonprofit operate. 501c 3’s require fiscal transparency to maintain exemption, and grant funding organizations require outcome to effort disclosure. Senior leaders have capitated salaries. I. Terms of earning potential, make sure you’re in it for the love and not the money.
I feel like everything you need to know about the non-profit world can be learned from the comedian who has an ongoing character called “Nonprofit Boss.”

I’ve been thinking about making this pivot too but I would have to selective about which specific non-profit since there are a few decent ones
As others have suggested, you really need to do your homework. Everyone will talk a great story, but only a few really follow through on their mission in a way that has impact and scale - and thus be worth a big career switch for you. Guide Star is certainly not perfect, but it is a place to start learning. Raising funds nowadays for virtually every nonprofit is a constant effort.
