I’m used to recruiters finding me on LinkedIn, but now I’m the one doing the hunting, and I'm getting nowhere. I’m applying, messaging HMs, and even showing up in person to drop off resumes. Still zero interviews. It used to be easier! What’s the best way to get an interview these days?

You are certainly right about that, it definitely used to be a lot easier. Finding a job in general is harder than ever. Have you tried asking your network if anybody knows of open positions? That's been my most reliable source of leads.

If you're getting zero interviews you should take a hard look at your resume. It's obviously not doing what it should, so it's possible there's some inherent flaw that could be fixed. Start there and don't waste time showing up places to drop off a resume that isn't working.

You are not imagining it. Recruiter-led hiring has slowed a lot. Right now, referrals and direct manager connections matter more than applications. I would focus on fewer roles and build real conversations instead of mass outreach.

I’m graduating in December, with a background in environmental economics and policy. Consulting didn’t work out this cycle. Made it to final rounds for Bain and Kearney but in the end didn’t get an offer. I want to recoup and try again, but I’m worried that once I’m out of undergrad the door will be closed to starting in consulting.

What can I do to make this happen? I have friends and connections at Bain and Kearney and the other firms as well, but not sure if it’s feasible now.
