In my company, promotions are coming this year. My manager said if I want promotion, I need to move to another location far from my home. He said I can come back later but didn’t give any timeline. I feel confused about taking risk or staying comfortable. What would you do in this situation?

"Commute 4 hours a day OR move away for a year and then we can maybe talk about promoting you." Seriously? If I was you, I'd be staying put and filling out applications until I landed something else. Asking you to do all that without any kind of guarantee is absurd.

Discriminated seriously..?

I think this is very subjective based on your personal situation, what the promotion entails (pay increase, benefits, stock options, etc), and whether you like your current location vs the new location more. Are you married with a family or young and single? Do you have an established network of friends close by? Do you like where you live now? All questions you should be asking yourself and we have none of that information.

Thanks for your advise

That's a complicated scenario. It depends on how big a promotion it is, and how far the move would be. If it's something like you'd have a horrendous commute that's not great. If it's that you'd have to move to a new city, that might be attractive or it might be awful. If it's really a good move for your career it would make sense to go along with it, but not if it would turn your life totally upside down.

Tha ks for your advise i will really helpful in my decision

lol better get it in writing before you accept.

I will definitely talk to HR

Depends on the appeal of the location, if you’re able to do it with your personal situation, what your goals are, etc, if none of those line up, then I wouldn’t take the promotion. Regardless, with those stipulations to get a promotion, I’d start looking elsewhere

Struggling with a decision. Just started a new role with good manager and WLB within healthcare technology. But another large tech firm/cloud/software reached out and willing to pay 20% more. Not sure what the WLF is for this other role. Should I take the better paying role?

User experience mgr salary? I support six product teams and eight reports. 20+ years experience

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.
