Interviewing with other firms. Been asked to sign an NDA so we can both share more “confidential details”. How far would you typically go in sharing without violating the confidentiality of my current firm? Names or roles of clients? Projects delivered? Metrics?

They are more concerned about you sharing the details they provide to you. They know not to ask about client names. You can talk about roles and projects without mentioning client names. You can talk about metrics that pertain to you.

The extent to which they respect your confidentiality commitments to your existing clients and firm will speak volumes about the type of company they are. If they ask you to list your clients and detail the work, you know what type of firm they are and how they will treat their own clients.

NDA allows them to share but doesn’t release you from confidentiality of current employer that you agreed to with emplacement. You do not have the power to wave that

I would expect they will ask you to list client names and who your contacts are. I’ve had this “open your Rolodex” approach happen with one small firm I’ve spoken with and one very large and reputable firm.

Just wait until they find out about LinkedIn, it will blow their minds.

When I’ve interviewed potential Partner hires, they usually talk in some detail about the substance of their work, and in some detail about the client organizations and buying points / types of relationships they have.

Some are careful not to connecting all dots explicitly to indicate exactly what work was done for which clients - that’s probably best practice. Some just lay it all out with details of projects, clients, names. That can be more direct but I wouldn’t normally ask for it, even under NDA.

Where we do need to get specific is (a) about any noncompete restrictions which might be client-specific and (b) to verify how some of your key clients speak about you.

Any insight on Brewer (either office, generally curious about the firm). I assume comp after year 1 is discretionary, rather than lock-step, given the size of the firm. Would appreciate happiness, horror stories, of whatever “firm culture” falls between the two. DM me if you don’t want to share publicly.
