Is anyone else surprised people aren’t fuming about Trump’s takeover of DC? A “friend” told me we’ve cried wolf one too many times about Trump being a fascist so now everyone’s just tuning it out. Unreal.

Nobody outside the district cares. Inside the district, it hasn’t changed much yet (but we’ll see where it goes). Currently it’s just a small number of national guardsmen, and Trump control of MPD, who might have to work for the first time in their lives which could be traumatizing I guess.

But if this turns into the various federal bodies exceeding their jurisdiction without punishment (eg, all the new ICE agents becoming brownshirts and patrolling around the city), that’s a very different matter. I worry that the slow start is designed to desensitize people to what will happen and make it no longer newsworthy when it escalates.

likesmarthelpfulfunny

What is there to worry about? Actually being able to walk around DC safely at night? Maybe mayors of certain cities can just do their jobs instead of having press conferences every other day yelling about Trump tweeting something.

@A1: you told me the democrats were the interventionist party and republicans were not. Congrats on being fooled & hope you are enjoying the new war in the middle east! Oil is now up by ~30% since we started bombing.

It’s not that people have cried wolf, it’s that the wolf has been eating children for years and the village voted to bring him back for more. What does screaming about the wolf do?

Three reasons, imo: 1) People are not educated enough on DC/civil rights to have an opinion; 2) As a result, most average people hear "crime rates" these days and believe that what's being done is right...no matter what; and 3) For me, having had a parent who grew up in DC and was NOT a criminal/did not have criminal friends (I know, crazy, right? Lol)...I'm just not impressed. Most of these problems worsened in the late 20th century when CONservatives thought it made sense to silence (or kill) good leaders, defund identity cultivating programs, ignore the need for more mental health programs, and virtually leave most neighborhoods to their own, undeveloped selves. What do you think is gonna happen after that? Lol As a centrist, I believe in common sense. And racism doesn't make sense mainly because it sacrifices society to uphold an unnecessary agenda. Instead of us all working to make society better, we're left fighting for & with the crumbs dropped down on us from those who uphold it, and the moment things inevitably go south because of all the deficiencies it creates, they wanna swoop in and act like they could even BE heroes after all the chaos their racism birthed in a given environment. It's completely delusional & extremely evil atst. And not enough people know how to discuss DC from THAT perspective. PS: Yes, I'm aware good leadership matters, but if you've spent so much time beating up good leadership that arises that the good ones go to work and the people end up just taking what they can get just to hold on to representation, then it all still points back to the historical root problem...

Not surprised. Putting politics completely aside here because safety shouldn't be political. I'm curious to know if the fuming people have taken DC public transportation on more than one occasion - if ever. I take DC metro every day since moving here in 2010. Despite claims that crime is down - I've witnessed it progressively get worse over the years especially post-pandemic. Personally - I'm happy this is finally happening. Separately, from riding public transportation - I have a good friend that was car jacked pumping gas while heading into the office - broad daylight. I'll be thrilled when I don't have to wear my air pods and put my head down in an attempt to ignore (i) public defecation, (ii) urination, (iii) violent situations, (iv) harassment every morning and evening. And children and tourists shouldn't have to experience that either.

like

It’s true. The crime rate in NW (at least where I live) is roughly that of Salt Lake City. I’ve never had any trouble aside from the occasional minor inconvenience of a homeless person asking for change on the metro or a crazy person talking loudly to himself on a buss

Seriously? You are asking that question HERE? Wrong forum for that... how does this do anything to promote what Glassdoor is all about? Further, I would ask you to define what Fascism means, but I don't want you to think I care about anything you have to say.

like

DC has been an internal colony of the U.S. for decades and decades. Most Americans couldn’t care less about a city they view as full of government functionaries and minority groups being denied democracy

Hello Guys,

I joined
Cognizant recently, the project interview calls which I am getting is not from my base location.
I have the location constraint, should I wait for the right opportunity or raise this concern to ADP team so they can look in to it?

As per ADP policy, one should not have any constraints and take the project as FCFS basis.
