Is GlassDoor still relevant? I just got an email highlighting a conversation in Salary Negotiations from two years ago! Is this the best they have?

Did someone reply you on that conversation? Usually it brings it back if people are talking about and you reacted or interacted somehow.. still has value, especially for researching company reviews, salaries, and interview experiences. It works by allowing employees (current or former) to anonymously share insights about their workplace: like pay ranges, pros and cons, leadership reviews, and what to expect during interviews. In exchange, users often need to contribute their own reviews or salary info to access more data. Everything depends on the people replying I guess.

Weird. I feel like most of my notifications are relevant to what's currently going on on the sites. But I guess I haven't opened every email and I have my push notifications on my phone turned off. I think it's as relevant and useful as you make it out to be, personally

like

If you get an alert from an old conversation just mute the notifications for that thread. If it's 2 yrs old it's probably not relevant anymore. Is Glassdor still relevant: yes. You hear a lot of bias, jaded, some honest responses too from people in many fields and roles within companies.

Knowledge is still power even if your employers, the media and the politicians want you to believe otherwise.

The algorithm is likely based on your recent searches and what information they have available. E.g. you applied or search for that company and so it sent the most recent report.

However, I do agree that you can't take the information on Glassdoor with at face value.

Super odd, I wonder how that happened? Was it a particularly popular post or something you'd commented on previously?

I use it more than ever. I used to only look at it for checking out jobs that I'm considering, but now it has extra features that I find really helpful, especially now that I'm in the job search. It's strange that you got that notification but that sounds more like a fluke or a bug than anything.

the irony of coming to a Glassdoor app to ask if Glassdoor is still relevant...

🤡

Were there any new comments? That is pretty odd.

It also keeps recommending that I apply for a job as an FBI Special Agent. I'm not a US citizen nor based in the US, and don't have relevant experience. Other than that, it's a great suggestion, thanks Glassdoor...

Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations

I’m interviewing for a marketing manager role at a company based in SF. I’m genuinely excited about the role and the company but we’ve yet to discuss salary. I expect to be asked at some point, but my research has given me a VERY broad range. So I’m here to do a bit more research. I’ve got 5 very relevant years of experience and will have an associate manager directly reporting to me. Are there any marketers out there who can share their salaries in similar regions and experience levels?

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I anticipate getting a promotion this year and would like to get closer to $60k for my base salary. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions? Thanks in advance!
