Every firm is different, but my guess is you are not a star, have average to above average legal skills and have above average social skills

What a jerk comment. Way to blow some jr associate’s stranger’s confidence on nothing but a hunch. The truth is you can be picked for any reason ranging from the last secondee was a disaster and firm has to make up for it by sending a star, or at the other end you’re on the chopping block and a partner is trying to protect you. Or anywhere in between.
The point is no one knows. Just put your head down and do good work.

They like you enough to plug you in at a client so that they have a possible friendly insider if you decide to stay there. That would be a good outcome for them, since they likely have a lot of people at your year anyway or have plenty of pipeline.
It’s one of the firm’s biggest client fyi

What do you want in your career? I would say it’s a good sign. I know someone who was seconded to a top private equity firm. They didn’t make equity partner but they are now assistant GC there. I wish I had that opportunity. I would take it, if anything to add to the resume in the event you ever leave your current gig.
Probably doesn’t mean much. I’ve been seconded multiple times. It’s just an alternative fee arrangement.
At LW - I personally know 1 person who is destined for partner do secondment at a mega client as 3rd year ( family friends with managing partner at LW and she is always put on the top deals and is just in the right social circles all on top of doing good work) but I also know what tent that was sent on secondment across the country and it was basically supposed to be a push out
