Is it normal for an agency to give you only 48 hrs to accept an offer? I need more time to think and process. I asked for two extra days because I just don’t want to make a rash decision they said no

Damn, some serious writing on the wall.

• Poor project planning
• Sweatshop
• Unreasonable work environment

Hopefully, there is a better rationale. Good luck.

If I don't feel comfortable saying yes I'd just turn down the offer unless they give me more time.

likesmart

If you can’t decide in two days, what’s holding you back? And how will two more days make a difference? Is there more info you need? Or are you just feeling paralyzed? Unless it involves a cross country move, there are only so many factors you can weigh.

like

Don't rush into anything. Any decent agency is able to give you more time if you ask.

likehelpful

It’s one of two things: 1) they’re understaffed and need someone immediately or 2) they know the job is miserable and they’re pressuring you before you wise up. Either way those are red flags. It’s not like you asked for another week, you asked for a day or two extra. I’d only take the job if you feel really confident it’s the right fit.

like

Adding to the question: What if you don't want to give an answer bc you're talking to multiple agencies and are just waiting to learn more about what the others might offer/are all about?

like

Yes help! What do you say in this situation? Feel the one I tell to wait will get skittish and offer it to another candidate and I'll lose out on both.

like

Yep unfortunately it is

like

Are there concrete things to process? Like, does accepting the offer require a geographic move or career shift or commit you to a lower salary than you’d be expecting for the position such that you need to think through how it impacts your long term plan given that significant raises are hard to come by at agencies? If so, and you’ve communicated that, then I’d just turn it down. If not, well, I kinda get it

like

It’s called an exploding job offer. Popularized by Wall Street investment firms competing for talent. That agency must think it’s pretty cool.

like

Run! That’s never a good sign

funny

Perhaps they didn’t want to be unfair to their #2 choice of an offer by making them wait two extra days. Either way, it seems like a fairly standard practice to give an answer “within a couple days”.

like

^ that’s exactly what I was thinking as well

like

You have to assume that there are other candidates. You might be their top choice but not their only option—and they want you to know that. Also, they are testing to see how enthusiastic you are about the job. If you seem reluctant, they will happily move to the next candidate. Obviously, they do not view you as irreplaceable.

smart

Very true

And I mean, it's not a marriage proposal lol. And we know how weird it is to ask for more time to think about that while it's a much bigger decision lol. Good luck and follow your intuition.

It's not abnormal and you must've been expecting it to a degree so not shocking news. What CD1 said. What's the issue? The bowl might help with additional context.

There's so much injustice in this industry across the board it should always relevant.

I think you deserve to have more than a couple days to consider an offer. There are a lot of life things to consider: even if you’re staying in the same city, how does it affect your commute differently? Will you make more or less money? How does your budget look after that? Is this the best next career move? No matter what the agency name is, seems like good people would give you enough time to think - a least until end of the week or something.

This is just another POV from someone doing hiring right now - but the hiring process is a two way street, right? We hate it when companies drag in choosing an employee - slowing the process down and the same is the other way. Making the decision to hire someone is exciting and when the person needs more time it can deflate that feeling a bit. Sometimes I wish the prospective employee thought deeply about it during the process. But I get it from the other side too - truly to me it’s the easier side to understand. Just wanted to shine light on the hiring end and why it can feel tough when someone needs a ton of time to make a choice.

It sucks that they make us wait a week, sometimes 2 when giving us an answer but we have to accept or decline in 2 days. 🙄

Hello guys, I am a ML Engineer by profession and have recently heard about the AI Centre of Excellence at TCS.

I've that the COE team is supposed to guide TCS employees on client end. However, I've also heard that as they do not generate any profits, TCS moves them to client side as soon as possible.

Could anyone please share some insights about work at the AI COE at TCS? How's the team and how's overall growth in terms of skills and payscale? Are there any drawbacks of joining AI COE?

Has anyone ever worked at an agency in which the project management department was properly utilized? I traditionally was brought up in my career where PM type tasks were handled by lower level AMs. I have observed separating AM and PM tasks into two separate departments just causes communication issues and lazy account people. Account people should have a good understanding of how much effort and time goes into a project. Project Managers are missing a lot of context so blind leading blind.
