Hi Everyone, I am trying to apply for a Technical Support role at Dropbox I’m entering all the required fields but there seems to be an issue, when I hit submit after filling the form, it doesn’t submit and throws error ‘Looks like you left this blank! Please fill out this required field’ when all the fields are entered already (I have checked so many times, and filled the form from scratch several times too). Anyone from Dropbox who can put me in touch with HR or suggest what I should do next?

Take initiative! Ask them if you can watch them do it and record the meeting so that you will know how (and only ask once) — and if you want to take it up a notch, you can document it after you’ve mastered it.
There are folks who purposefully gatekeep. But more often, I find it’s more about being the “go to” for that thing is exhausting.
I’ve found from personal experience that documenting the thing…can lead to being the point person, which is way more work than doing it myself. 😂

Yess I do try to document as I learn, partly for my own recollection but definitely helps training future people. I have had similar experiences from letting people on projects then suffering a million questions...
I find it common. People see it as job security. They cling to standards and norms to stay relevant as opposed to cross training and learning new things to help them grow I to a new position. Perhaps they worry you can't teach an old dog new tricks... But that depends on the dog's attitude, not age.

That is true, i suppose no one wants to see someone they've trained, be better at the task, even if it may make some improvements
No. A few reasons why they maybe doing this
They would rather do it themselves than document.
They think they are protecting their position and want to be the only one with that knowledge.
They haven’t been clearly told what they should be training you on or they think they don’t have time to explain it - but if they never do they will have to keep doing it for you.

I do find there is an element of that knowledge protection, maybe over time I can get it out of them!
Knowledge keeps seniors employed. Nowadays, companies would rather replace them with cheaper alternatives. Unfortunately, you cannot replace knowledge and experience. Once you give that up, it's a lot easier to replace you. Nowadays, young people do not get that. The more your knowledge and experience, the harder it is for a company to replace you. You will cost them three to five times more to replace you than it is just to keep you, especially in this new age of AI. Everybody that went to school for accounting or sales, their jobs are being replaced by AI. But somebody that has their hands in the works and actually does the job and refuses to give up their knowledge and experience will always have a job while the others are out there looking for a new job.

I suppose if they're the only person that can handle certain tasks, it definitely keeps them around!

I guess they have their own performance goals...

That is true I suppose! They're a lot older than me, probably retiring in 5/10 years so just hoping they would pass on their experience
