Is it okay that my ACD just sits back and relaxes for every single pitch we make? She's involved in all of our meetings prior (just in terms of ideating and providing feedback on our thoughts for a certain campaign), but during the meeting, she's silent as a cat. I can't tell if she's secretly nervous out of her mind or wants us to steal the show. It's still weird and I can't place why she is the way she is. Is it rude to ask her?

Pitch or client meetings? If it’s client meetings it’s nice she lets you drive. Because the opposite approach is to let you do all the work and she steals the credit with client. Right now you’re being set up to shine.

Do you need support from her in these meetings? Are you feeling the client is pushing you around?

I think it’s important to figure out what you need and why. Then approach it that way. She’ll have more leverage with client.

Also as an ACD she’s probably figuring things out too.

All in all it’s a nice problem to have. It means you’re becoming a better presenter. And learning how to interact and sell your ideas to a client.

I think they mean internal concept review. I’ve heard the term “pitch” used maybe twice for that.

Hmmm I can't tell either. It is unusual though. And no, not rude to ask her! Open communication is key in any team dynamic. It sounds like she might have her own style of leadership in trusting you and the rest of the team to shine during pitches. However, if her silence makes you feel uneasy, it’s perfectly reasonable to approach her and express your observations.

you don’t have to be the loudest person in the room to make the loudest work. too many full team meetings turn into pissing contests to see who can sound like the smartest person in the room which all too often dumbs down the work. being able to present your work and speaking up during meetings that don’t need your voice are two different things. I had an ECD call me out for not asking questions in a briefing meeting and i responded that i was listening to the brief and absorbing it. I was reprimanded in my review for it. 20 minutes after that meeting ended i came up with an idea that eventually allowed our team to win 20+ awards.

I interviewed for KPMG on 11/15 for a Senior role and the HR emailed me on 11/16 that everyone liked me but they think I should be hired as an Experienced Associate. I had a call with the HR on 11/17 wherein we discussed about my salary expectations and the HR said he will get back in a day. It’s been more than 10 days and multiple follow ups but still no response. I don’t think I was rude while talking to the HR, I just told my current salary and asked for min. that no. Did i miss the chance ?

Hi! I have been working in marketing and advertising for ~5 years and recently started exploring the freelance side of things. I started conversations with a small boutique studio about doing Facebook ads for them and they asked what my retainer fee would be to manage them. Since I’ve always worked for a company that was hired to do it I am not entirely sure what a freelance rate for that should be? I would love any insight. I’m certified through meta’s platform too if that matters.

RANT: People re-writing a cw’s stuff has always been painful. These days it’s far more common than when I started. It’d be one thing if they upgraded the work. If I learned from it. If I genuinely seethed with envy over their wit w/that perfectly placed semi-colon. People can’t re-art direct stuff bc they don’t know the programs so they ask the ADs for changes. Word and a keyboard made everyone think they can write. Which they can’t. Google Slides is Google slip ‘n slide into (bad ref. here.)
