Is the legal job market really as slow as it feels?
Lately, I’ve heard mixed takes — some say things are picking up, others say it’s still slow for corporate and in-house roles. What are you seeing out there right now — more openings or more hiring freezes?

The job market is ROUGH. I have been looking for six months and can't seem to find ANYTHING. You definitely are not alone.

Keep trying, best of luck

Past 2 years have been tough. Haven't heard alot going on for anyone except those who have a book or are the perfect candidate for the position.

Yea legal is seen as an expense and not revenue generating

I’m not even looking until January. It’s been slow and will not have a chance at picking up until next year.

Here is hoping. I just wish I didn’t remember thinking the same thing last year around this time.

It's the 4th quarter. Hiring is usually slow this time of year.

True. People are not moving now as they’re waiting for bonus

Mixed bag is the correct way of describing it. If you're thinking of going in house, it's definitely going to be slower come this time of year. For firms, it depends on your target location. If you're in a big city, firms are still hiring, but at ~70% efficiency compared to the summer months.

Several people believe that hiring picks up in the beginning of the year, and although that's generally true, a lot of the interviewing and offer acceptances occurs in the fall and they start in January.

I heard people say wait until the spring and once the bonus is paid, people start moving

Hi, been stuck in the contract analysis/review cycle. I have asked a few recruiters how to make a lateral move into in-house. They told me to focus on contract management, which I have been doing for the past year. Now that I have, are there any sites besides “jobscan” that I can use to make sure my resume fits the job descriptions? Does anybody know any recruiters that could help me, as well?

Curious if anyone else is or has been in the same boat. I started as an assistant at an entertainment law firm prior to passing the bar. Upon passing, the partner told me they would hire an assistant for me since I now became an associate. That was 1.5 years ago and I am still in the limbo of juggling my own workload + doing assistant roles for my supervisors. I have also had no increase in pay, which is a huge deal for me. Is this normal in the entertainment world? Any suggestions?

I am in the final steps of the interview process for an in-house position. I mentioned to the recruiter that I had unvested equity I would be leaving on the table. She said the company would take this into account and make me whole. She later asked for proof of the equity in the form of my account statement and balance, which I provided. I have not yet received an offer. Is it typical for companies to ask for this documentation if they don't intend to make the candidate an offer?
