A recruiter once posted this: There’s no such thing as a perfect company. You look at their positives and negatives and decide what works best for you. I enjoy my job, but it’s not hard to find current and previous staff who will say the opposite. And if a truly well run company exists, they don’t have room for everyone.
Honestly, I hate to say it, but I think that's just the nature of marketing. There is so much out of our control when it comes to our metrics, it feels like we are always scrambling at least a little bit. We can't reliably control things like click-through rates, conversions, impressions, and engagements beyond just trying different things and seeing what sticks. It's a chaotic industry filled with delightfully chaotic people. I love it, but I could definitely see how it would be frustrating and exhausting for other people.
Haha good to know it doesnt change by company or seniority!
Lol this is a totally fair question and I think watching the Elon/DOGE stuff go down the last few months, i have decided that efficiency is much easier said that done. A lot of companies talk strategy but operate in constant reactive mode, and you can only start to see that when you move up and witness the cracks. Would love to hear if anyone works for a really well organized company
The higher up you go the more the disconnect starts to deepen. I’ve been in companies that had really well run areas, I don’t know that I can say it was the entire company though. Not really sure that marketing is the only victim, would not surprise me if that isn’t how most places operated.
From my experience, this is not just an issue in the marketing field. It is an issue in any kind of creative space or large corporation. You have all of these policies and procedures laid out for people, but it’s always the communication that seems to break down and cause chaos. So you can leave marketing but if you’re going to work for a bigger company or even a medium size one you’ll still probably have a decent amount of chaos you have to deal with but good luck to you and your job search
