It’s hard not to compare your career to the big announcements people post online, especially when it’s someone you know or used to work with. I’ve caught myself questioning my own progress after seeing promotions or new roles pop up, even when I know my path was moving in the right direction, just not as fast as others. In this job market, that comparison spiral can really mess with mindset. How do you keep it from getting to you when you’re surrounded by everyone else’s highlight reels?

You remind yourself that everyone’s journey is different and impact isn’t determined by levels reached- also related to “a good name is better than silver”. You will also have people you are ahead of and as sad as it sounds some people who are ahead or behind or the same level will pass away at some point. It is a reminder that everyone’s path and pace is different. A tortoise is much slower than a cheetah but can a cheetah outlive a tortoise in terms of years lived? A lot of millionaires got to that level of breakthrough when they were much older but some are much younger and they are already millionaires; at the same time there are people that will never be millionaires but have impacted more lives. Focus on your journey and ensure you impact lives while at it- at the end we don’t leave this world with the titles. It’s human to think this way (as I do to) but it’s how you deal with the thought realistically and move it aside that matters.

How do I figure out spending with my SO? Initially I was paying for 90% of stuff (no actual bills, just going out). I talked to her and said we need to be more even. She was never proactive. She kind of got offended but we ended on a good note to split things. It went well for a couple weeks but now it's back to normal. She never takes out her card and only venmos me if I send her the request. She lets Venmos sit for weeks before paying them. I still let a lot of things slide.

Need career advice. Trying to break into a finance role, preferably an Analsyt role but I have no transferable experience. I worked as a mortgage loan officer (which is sales) for 2 years after college, but since mortgage is such a niche industry, no hard skills transfer and have no relevant undergrad internships unfortunately. I know I can essentially get any sales job I want in finance IE: financial advisor etc. but don’t want to be stuck in sales forever. Any advice?
