We're discussing the company holiday plan and it looks like my manager is going to pressure me to work on Thanksgiving this year. Late-stage capitalist america, now without holidays!

I am so sorry for you! In my case I had to do it last year, just thinking that I have to do it again makes me despair.

I know how difficult it can be, but it is more common than it seems. On many occasions I have had to work on holidays.

Will they at least pay you better? I think the day they tell me I have to work on Thanksgiving will be my last day working for that company. I don't feel it's fair to work on holidays if the person doesn't agree.

Yup. We're barely seen as people these days it seems.

I recently had an initial interview for a technical recruiter position. The guy on the phone stated that this is not a 9-5 job and long hours are expected. I proceed to ask how much PTO is offered and he said that is not recommend within the first 6 months of working and the harder you work the more PTO you receive. From that conversation, I saw instant red flags. Any thoughts?

Partners - Do you ever take vacations?

I have been at my current firm for about 1.5 years, and in that entire time the partner in my group hasn't been out of the office a single time. Is that normal? I can't tell if it's standard for big law partners to not take time off, if the dynamics for my group may be different (only 1 partner in the entire group), or it the partner I work with is just a masochist.

Considering a move to NTT Data in a healthcare consulting role. Mixed reviews in the bowls. Major concerns are bench policy, staff aug roles, 2 week PTO, and high turnover due to job dissatisfaction. Hi, I'm an employee at a hotel chain who works remotely. I've been working remotely for over a year now and I love it! The company I work for is very supportive of remote workers, which is great.

But there's one thing that's been bothering me: it's hard to get feedback on my work when I'm not in the office. It would be great if there was some kind of system that let me know how my performance was being evaluated while I'm working on projects from home.
