I was taking care of a loved one
Why is it embarrassing? Put career break and make up something for the time gap you traveled, volunteered etc to reset and refocus post layoff now you’re back in the market with intentionality seeking your next opportunity
Change your title to HR Advisor and start placing the reason for your departure on your resume next to the title you were given!
With the job market being the way it is, I doubt hiring managers would blink at that unemployment gap. I think you’d be putting your job prospects at risk if you started lying about your employment dates.

That gap is nothing to be ashamed of. Fudging dates can backfire badly, especially in HR. It is better to be honest and explain the context confidently.
