I’ve gotten mixed advice on talking about compensation early in the process. Some say wait, some say ask during the recruiter screen. When do you bring it up without turning them off?

I’ve always waited for the offer and bring tangible value points that make sense for what you’re applying for.

Kind of depends for me. If the range isn't posted or is incredibly wide, I want to have the conversation early to know if it's going to be worth my time. If the posted range is in line with my expectations, I'll wait until later on in the process to broach the subject.

When you talk with HR, ask the budgeted range for the position

I need help figuring out if I’m being underpaid. I’m working in real estate private equity and I focus on fund models and property valuations. I’m currently at base $80k and 20% bonus. Advice needed on handing in notice, I recently signed an offer letter and understand the screening process takes 4-6 weeks. I have a month's notice period and have agreed a preliminary start date in Feb.

I was planning on not handing my notice in until the checks had been completed so its all secured (not that I think I will fail any checks), but apparently I need a reference from my current employer not previous ones. Can't really do this without handing in notice can I?

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?
