I’ve had more than one manager tell me to “leave the drama at the door,” only to spend the whole shift gossiping about other employees. It creates such a toxic, awkward environment when leadership plays favorites or fuels tension. It’s hard to take any “no drama” speech seriously when they’re the ones stirring the pot. How do you handle working under managers who say one thing but model the complete opposite?

They just want everyone else to leave the drama so they don’t have to deal with it. It’s different when it’s them. Fortunately, those types of managers do not last long where I’m at.

Roll your eyes and move on. It's annoyingly hypocritical, but their job title gives them the ability to get away with things that the rest of us never could. There's no point arguing it or calling it out since doing so will only paint a target on your back.

Yeah in this market I would just put my head down and keep my mouth shut. Toxic manners are unfortunately everywhere so you just have to find a way to not have them target you.

Oh my gosh, that is how my supervisor is. My first day she literally told me to stay out of the drama and just keep to myself. That same day she started talking bad aobut other employees to me.

Do you all sometimes feel overwhelmed by all the self care tips you see online. Gua sha, sleeping mask, satin pillowcase, this body wash, that scrub, dermaplaning. I don’t know what I should do vs. what not. 😰 and I feel like if I don’t do it, I’m not taking care of myself and not going to look good a few years later. 😓

Additional Posts in Restaurants & Food Services

I work as an AGM in a busy restaurant. Been working there for just over a year, and haven't had a single raise. I now only make 0.50 cents more than even the lowest paid shift lead but I am doing a lot more work. I'm no longer satisfied with these conditions. Should I try to negotiate a raise or look for other opportunities?

If I should negotiate, any tips?

Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?
