I work in hospitality right now as a young person without a degree. Are there good opportunities for a career if I move up? Or should I go for a degree and switch to something else?

It’s mostly a very physically and mentally exhausting job but it can be quite rewarding if you’re interested in building a career here. I love my job but I feel like there’s a cap to my earnings in the future. There’s definitely one now. I do a side hustle from home to earn some extra cash to compensate for following my dream 😅
If you’re interested in doing a side hustle too, lmk 🙋🏻‍♀️

A Manager in hospitality here (specifically, restaurants). Very proud of how far I’ve come- at 23 yrs old, I currently manage a Michelin-starred restaurant in NYC and will be making over six figures next month. It’s demanding- I work 12 hour days, commanding staff and delivering exceptional service to guests in a fine-dining setting. It seems the sky is the limit here, so long as you prove your value and what you bring to the table then back it up with your work (which is for all industries, really!)

In all places there are opportunities, but in this type of work, the more you climb, the less time you have for yourself, it is something that consumes a lot but has good rewards for your effort.

like

It all depends on the love you have for work, if you feel that the service is not for you, you better finish your studies and dedicate yourself to something else.

like

Well I had the same doubt but I really didn't want to study as such, so I totally dedicated myself to this 4 years later I ended up studying to be a professional in this area, and I don't regret anything.

Hotel life is not for everyone, the schedules are demanding and you have to enjoy what you do in order to maintain a happy pace of life working in this area.

like

Everything related to the hotel sector is quite demanding of time and physical and mental resistance and I have to be honest the pay is not always good, but you have access to many good things normally, the best thing would always be to obtain a degree and make a career in this discipline.

There are definitely good opportunities for a career if you move up in the hospitality industry. Many people start out as waiters or waitresses and then work their way up to manager or even owner.

like

If you're looking for a more stable and secure job, it might be a good idea to go for a degree and switch to something else. What career paths do you have in mind?

like

There are definitely good opportunities for a career if you move up within the hospitality industry. You start out in entry-level positions and work your way up to management or other supervisory roles. However, if you're interested in making a career change, you may want to consider pursuing a degree in a different field. There are many options available, and it's important to find one that matches your interests and skills.

helpful

There are plenty of good resources available to help you make this decision, so don't hesitate to do some research. Try and find out what's more profitable in the end in your area, and you can make a better decision then.

helpful

Opportunities exist, especially if you're interested in having your own business one day. If it's something you truly love, stick with it and focus on jobs at high-end places for the better pay. If getting a degree is an option for you without a huge amount of debt, really consider it. You could find an industry with far more stability and better pay.

Yes I'm a Agm without having gone to college for hotel management

like

It is something while you in school and can watch that. since i understand these thoughts this is also when you find a schedule trial. does he have a thing for you? just don’t let him change you. college is the best to find out who are and what you know. find our dog, that’s what i
meant for christian

Do what makes you happy. I went to college several times, never finishing because I’d change my mind on the profession. I’ve been at the same fine dine restaurant I’m at now for almost nine years. I started as a server, and now I’m an AGM. Our company has another location coming on the horizon and the will be an opportunity for me to be a GM in a major city with a guesstimate of a $100,000 - $125,000 salary.

Regardless of your decision, hospitality is always a great thing you can fall back on.

Get your degree.

I would appreciate your perspective.
I am currently working on my MBA in a professional evening and weekend program at a highly accredited university. I am thinking about transferring to a much smaller private online program, specifically because they offer a concentration in organizational health, which directly builds on my doctoral research. Does great depth and specialization outweigh the value of a highly respected generalist degree?

Hey FishBowl Friends, so I’m currently trying to break into tech sales/FinTech and I feel that due to my previous work history, I might not look like the ideal candidate on paper but I’m an extremely fast learner and very coachable. I’ve been a manger at a gym, got my degree in finance, worked as a client advisor at a top 3 auto dealer in the nation and now I’m a project manager at a solar company. I really want something that’s remote and steady, any recommendations on how to spruce myself up?
