Our HS has shoe bags with numbers on them. When the students walk into class, the cellphones go into the pockets. When class is over, the students pick up their phones as they leave class.
That's a great idea!
Dah! No phones should be in possession of the child unless before or after class. We are adding to the chronic problem of learning struggles and enabling unhealthy behavior by allowing our kids to struggle. With all the knowledge out there about how destructive these phones are for our kids, why are we allowing them in school. The phone is in direct competition with learning. It It’s reckless imo
In our school, phones are allowed at the discretion of the teacher. This was a change a number of years ago, as they were never permitted at all, even in the hallways and cafeteria. I'm pretty sure one of the reasons for revising the policy was that enforcement was so inconsistent. Teachers were stressing out about monitoring the lunch room like prison guards, because guess who got in trouble if word got out that a kid with a phone went undetected.
That all being said, it's obviously a good direction to go. Other than pure convenience, there is no real need for phones in school, especially during class. The argument from parents that they might need to reach their child in some kind of emergency doesn't make any sense because they can just call the school. The cancer thing aside, phones are clearly not good for kids' mental health. There are far more reasons not to have phones than to have them.
I’m torn on this. On one hand, phones are an undeniable distraction. On the other hand, though, I know the phones aren’t going away, and banning them doesn’t teach self-control. I’d rather help students build the skills to manage their tech use now rather than hope they suddenly figure it out in college or the workplace.
That sounds like a fantasy. Kids are kids, and they are going to make bad choices. My school has a no-cell phone policy it was an automatic Saturday detention.
It works. The kids turn in their phones in the morning and collect them in the afternoon. There are so many fewer distractions it is incomparable.
Thank god for RFK, Jr. I mean, who else could have ever come up with a cell phone ban? Genius!
Sort of reminds me of the intellectual fortitude of this guy: https://youtu.be/31EqAA2l2jU?si=qb5QLytbThKLLslc
Our high school is piloting the Yonder pouch. IT IS AMAZING the difference in focus and attention in the classroom when they don't have access to their phones.
I love hearing this. So, as districts restrict phones….im going to take an educated guess and say; kids will engage more, stay focused longer, and participate more. Kids will LEARN more, and maybe feel good about themes 😊
I’d bet it really is the phones and not the DOE or the pandemic that’s causing this degree of learning loss that we’re seeing. I wonder if this will improve absenteeism too.
Thanks for sharing!
RFK Jr is a disgrace. I don’t care what this junkie has to say about anything, least of all health.
PHS2- I’m not loyal to a person. I don’t give a shit if RFK is a democrat, Republican, independent, libertarian or whatever. RFK is a quack. He’s truly an opportunist, making money off of vulnerable ppl- typically mothers. Do your own research- his information is out there for everyone to read.
I'd bet money that all of you ragging on RFK Jr. would be singing a different tune if he'd followed the rules and remained a loyal Demoncrat.
Social media is bad for the kids, for sure. Some are/were upset about that because it was bad for kids, but others were upset that social media "censored conservative thought", when it was really censoring hate speech.
Cali, please humor me and define "hate speech."
We did, and it is great. Get rid of them.
RFK Jr needs to lead by example.
