Most IHC roles do not provide much in the way of training. Saying you don’t have the experience but will work for free isn’t a selling point and doesn’t fix the underlying issue: they have X they need done and it would be cheaper to hire a qualified W2 lawyer than it is to farm it to outside counsel
If you don’t want comp to be an issue, when the recruiter asks, you can just say that your salary expectations are within the stated range
I usually just give a range towards their lower end in that situation.
