Junior associate here applying to a wide range of in house jobs. Would it help in my applications if I express a willingness to take a salary below the job listing’s stated range? I would like to apply to listings where my work experience comes up a bit short and was hoping that a concession would help.

Agreed that this just makes you look desperate, not more marketable.

Ok thanks everyone! I will not do that.

Say you'll work for free

funny

Most IHC roles do not provide much in the way of training. Saying you don’t have the experience but will work for free isn’t a selling point and doesn’t fix the underlying issue: they have X they need done and it would be cheaper to hire a qualified W2 lawyer than it is to farm it to outside counsel

If you don’t want comp to be an issue, when the recruiter asks, you can just say that your salary expectations are within the stated range

I usually just give a range towards their lower end in that situation.

I’m hoping someone might have some ideas about this- I’m currently five years out of law school with a clerkship, a tax LLM, 3 years of experience doing transactional tax work and a few months of EC/VC experience (which I recently switched to from tax). I like the EC/VC work, but I don’t know how long I want to stay in biglaw. Can anyone weigh in on how employers for in-house roles might look at my experience in a year or two?

Very specific to retail and/or hospitality in-house roles: has anyone found a good solution for predictive scheduling? Our retail division has one set of software for scheduling and one for payroll, and neither of them can handle predictive scheduling compliance issues unless they’re used for both the scheduling and payroll functions. I’m coming up empty on ideas for them to bridge the gap, but I’m also new to my compliance counsel role, so I would be overjoyed if anyone has suggestions.

Hi All, just sharing what on mind to vent it out from my system. Maybe with this I could gain some insights and inspiration.
I have been working as a data scientist since 2018 & have been the bread winner. I have neither been under a proper mentor nor with a team of peers from my field to help me out. I was alone and confused. I have never really got the chance to prove myself which makes me all the more depressed. I'm not sure what to do with my future, indecisive and low on confidence.

Forgive the basic question but can you contract around state statutes? For ex, customer wants to insert state contractor payment statutes and have that state law govern. I’m assuming the way around this is to have another more preferable state as choice of law?

What’s a fair expectation for my first raise? Publicly traded co with ~2500 employees. I’ve been doing litigation with the company for almost 3 yrs and have only had a 2% cost of living raise so far. Graduated in 2014. Base comp is $127.5k in the Philly area. I see salaries all over the place in this site and it’s hard to tell whether mine is competitive.
