Just accepted a reduced-hours offer for a lifestyle firm I’m really excited about and ready to leave my current toxic one (treated me awfully post-baby despite years of meeting my hours). In process of conflicts check, how often do conflicts not pass? I’m employment defense moving to employment defense. I really want to be done with my current firm and having anxiety about it.

I moved laterally twice, both times with a fairly large portfolio of active matters and long list of historical representations. Both times we had to set up a few walls and once I had to get a waiver but it’s very unusual for a conflict to kill a move, especially for an associate. I don’t think I ever heard of that happening in 35 years in big law.

FWIW it sounds like you’re frustrated. For your own good please don’t let that affect how you depart. Take the highest high road, no matter what.

Rarely. If anything, it may just limit the matters you work on. But definitely let conflicts clear before giving notice.

Yes, of course! Thank you for the insight. Just always worried about something, lol.

Thanks, @Teacher 1. I always love seeing your responses on other posts I see. You have solid advice and guidance. And yes, I was always planning to depart with grace, notwithstanding their awful treatment of me 😊

Thanks for saying that. I appreciate it.

Reputations are fragile and memories are long. As you’ve figured out (and probably because your parents raised you right) there’s no upside in being a jerk in the way out even when it’s richly deserved. Good luck in to your new gig. Hope it works out great for you.

Can anyone let me know how easy it is to apply to a consulting firm in Dubai directly coming from London? Is it possible to apply straight (rather than moving laterally in London, waiting a few years then transferring?) interested in MBB views too. (I would have roughly 2.5 YOE by then)

This is not my wheelhouse so I’m not sure of the answer. If someone is writing a “memoir” and is including me in it, and I DONT want to be in the book, do I have any legal recourse? I understand since it’s been published it doesn’t meet any invasion of privacy or potential defamation yet, but is there something I can do preliminarily to protect myself and stop my inclusion?

Any advice on how to deal with a partner/boss who is shifting all responsibility to me with zero guidance, no mentoring, and an unwillingness to discuss the issues? (Small firm, only associate under this partner and have been working at the firm for 2 years). There are an increasing number of passive aggressive comments from the partner who expects to be completely hands off once the case lands on my desk. Wants me to figure it all out despite cases being from different areas of law.
