You've worked in this business before. Plenty of successful people aren't good enough.
From one Deutscher to another, it’s easy to fall into that place when you’re in a place like Deutsch. Working here has done a number on my self esteem but it’s hard when you’re told to “care the most” and that care not be reciprocated or rewarded. Give yourself some grace.
So so true and thank you for that!
also maybe cast your net into unexpected places, stay flexible about next steps, think about ways you could reinvent/reinterpret your experience and what it means in pitching to farther afield places/ideas. you may still land what you expect but even being creative like this could give a sense of options and possibilities. plumb the network for surprising ties
I think about my bills :-/
Replace “is something wrong with me?” with “is something wrong with the industry?” Know that it’s an extremely weird time, getting in front of the right people at the exact right time when there are so few openings and thousands of talented people like you looking is like going to take time. It’s not a reflection on you. But every door you squeeze a foot into now could be the one that opens later, so be proud of yourself for every at-bat. They’re all connections.
it’s a great question. sort of the hardest part. feel like there can be a lot of strategies all laddering up to not getting discouraged. having some things you enjoy doing, some things you feel good about telling prospective employers you’ve been doing, exercise, wellness practice, maybe small pro bono things
Arthurrr…..I’m sure 💁🏼♀️
Life is a game, a tough and serious one. If you don’t think you’re not going to win, then why are you playing if not to win. You are your number one cheerleader. Don’t ever say, “I could have, or should have”, just do it.
If you’re a creative, I’m happy to take a look at your book and provide some helpful notes to make it shine more.
Look in the mirror and ask yourself, “Is there anyone any better?”
This is extremely poor advice, (and needlessly cruel as well)
