And the Repubs love their strategy of creating huge deficits via tax cuts and endless spending on wars and the military, then doing the old bait and switch to use the deficits they knowingly create to argue for slashing government spending in all of the areas the philosophically against, largely social and environmental programs, under the rationale of "prudent fiscal choices because we have to try and lower the deficit". It's a marvelous shell game they've mastered.
I agree that the GOP isn’t close to being fiscally responsible.
But it’s foolish to blame this just on military spending.

It's a big part of the problem with Repubs tho - every war in the Middle East (and the trillions to "rebuild" Iraq and Afghanistan), an appetite and inclination to give the Dept. of Defense just about anything they ask for. It may never get off the ground (hopefully), but Trump's Golden Dome defense over the US which has direct echos to Reagan and the "Star Wars" boondoggle. I pointed out two big buckets out on many, but unlimited defense spending, which includes unnecessary wars and slashing taxes for the top 5% and corporations are big ones. If you have other big categories the fuel our deficits, I'm all ears.
We're still getting our DOGE checks right? Right?
Only if you invested in TRUMP coin and sold covered calls.
