A week later I wrote back to the recruiter and he said that he hadn’t heard back from the hiring manager at what time is best. What could be going on?

4PQE. UK. Have been offered a job at another firm but they've only agreed to match my salary. I went back asking for more and have been sternly told that's not possible as I'm already being offered more than what their bandings allow.
