Obsessing about hotels and such is JV. Of course we all like nice places and points, but doing what’s most convenient collectively, and then focusing on the work should be the priority.

Put another way- consultants who focus on supporting each other and the work, tend to rise. The consultants who are hotel and point obsessed rarely make it thorough the ranks. Actually somewhat of a red flag.

Who cares, enjoy the free stay at a lux hotel

(although we won't be able to get points for our stay) so that means I'll be missing out on 145k points. Would you rather stay at the high end hotel or get points for your stay?

Points easy. Have made this choice many times when given the opportunity to book non Marriott luxury hotels. I earn enough Marriott points each year to fly both my parents round trip in first class to southeast Asia. The marginal benefit of staying at a 5-star hotel vs a 4-star just doesn't compare at all to that value.

Networking question here. A retired partner at the firm I used to work out reached out to me recently about attending an afternoon during the week (b4 4/30) with one of his long time clients. The partner and I have kept in touch since I joined my new firm and I feel like his invitation is a great networking opportunity since the client (who I have worked with before) is on a number of boards. Torn as how to request off as an S3. Could materialize to nothing but could be good for reconnecting.

I’ve been working to an unhealthy degree lately. And I’ve been making the excuse that I have a lot of work right now, but I’m starting to wonder if I’m addicted to it. Part of it is anxiety and perfectionism. But my behavior is now actively harmful to myself and starting to harm my marriage.

How do I stop? I’m not talking work-life balance. I mean, how do I say, “I don’t care that the client wants this tomorrow and I’m not close to done, I’m going to sleep tonight”?

Welcome to all my fellow travelers. Travel is a great way to open your eyes to the world we live in. What are your client follow-up/communication policies or practices? I’m hearing more and more that clients don’t like the long periods of time with little to no contact. From my perspective, since I bill for my time, unless I have an update or need something, I don’t initiate a call. Also, clients hold on to important info and don’t initiate a call cause they’re waiting for me to communicate with them.
