They want a full time without having to pay benefits . Seeing a lot of that lately
That’s what it feels like
Break it down backwards - though I think you’re just venting
Future opps - why would they know your hourly rate? Also tell them you took the role to gain more social/photoshop/hybrid experience
Not able to go in 3 days a week - it’s so standard now - ask for flexibility if you have a good reason or are far away
45/hr - if it pays bills now take it and try to freelance to supplement.
Overall Chewy does not seem like a bad company to have in your resume.
Try to enjoy it and add to your network. Look at it as a step back to propel you forward.
Good luck!
“Hybrid Copywriter” basically means a writer who can also serve as an art director. 2 jobs for far less than the price of 1.
If you’re desperate, take it in the meantime then bolt immediately if something better comes along.
I don’t know. Usually it’s really hard for a company to see you at a higher level after they’ve put you in a lower role. The climb has been steep from my experience.
But to ACD’s point, if you’re desperate and any income is better than no income, take it and see what happens.
No one in your future cares what freelance gigs you took or for how much. I freelanced for a few years and of course ended up taking a few weird ones. Also, your rate at one place doesn’t lock you into a number everywhere else. When you’re freelancing, the #1 objective is getting paid and the #2 objective is doing the best work you can so next time they need help you get paid again
$45/hour is the equivalent of $90k/year. It's not crazy money, but it's not awful either if the work is more junior level. I agree with other comments. At the very least it's dollars in your pocket and a brand on a resume. You can always leave and go somewhere else.
You're not desperate if you feel you're too good for certain "temporary" roles.
I’m getting there, but still have savings and hope for something better.
If you are truly struggling, who cares about 3 days a week. Take the gig. You might make an important connection. Worst case scenario is you have income while looking for a new job.
It's a little low, but companies in FL are notorious for that. Chewy is a pretty good name to have on your resume though. Well-known, good creative, and a growing in-house team.
I also feel like I’m cheapening myself for future opportunities.
I could be wrong, but I think we are going to definitely go through a recession. We have empty ports and shelves about to begin. It might be a time to get whatever you can before the other shoe drops any day now.
Thank you, everyone. Appreciate it.
If you have the offer, take it and keep looking.
SR - Pays more than Starbucks! 🫰
I’ve definitely had that thought
Fck that. That’s half the rate of where it should be. Move on.
What are your associated costs - both in time and commuting costs? Will the overall commitment prevent you from pursuing other, better opportunities?
Being in the office may be useful for you, at least in the short run, since you can “network” with other people in the office.
BTW- What do you think the rate should be? All companies know that creatives need work and can name their price for seasoned creatives. You’re lucky even if you do get interviewed.
