Sorry OP, but adults want to get paid what they’re worth. That’s why agencies no longer hire them.
But it made for such a cool hashtag!! And I’m sure they high-fived after it hit them that they could change the “-ay” to “-ae”
The point is, if you’re in this business working on communications for a global brand you have an obligation to get educated before you borrow a line you know nothing about. We’re all smart people but there’s a need for adult supervision. This happens all too often. And today given the tensions it’s inexcusable to use the this language to sell cheap desserts. Maybe my expectations are too high.
I completely agree. Which is one of the many reasons knowledge and experience are worth their weight in gold. Sadly though, agencies only care about short term financials and only hire as such. Granted this conversation pivot isn’t what you intended (nor want), but it’s a reality the C-suite continues to ignore.
Lol, that’s what you get when you fire all the old people. The team that came up with this probably just thought it was some ancient U2 song.
Paging: Barack.
Tasteless? Possibly.
A small Portuguese activation “distressing” to those few globally-obsessed marketing freaks in Ireland who possibly only know of the U2 song, not the event? Doubt it.
Let me guess Managing Partner... you're American?
But where do we draw the line between free speech and what’s inappropriate? Look how popular South Park and Family Guy are and they hold no punches.
I don’t have the book on me now, but look through Joe la Pompe or Ads I’d the World and I’m sure you can find ads that have referenced the KKK or Hitler to sell a product.
Apparently there were no adults at McDonald’s either as someone there approved this.
That’s the tragic part. I can only hope this finds its way to Eire.
Agreed, but why all the “adult” language? I see a lot of older employees trying to use certain phrases and words to appeal to younger people and they never look into the origins of it.
Enlightenment doesn’t always come with age. Also, as someone born well after the tragic event and even after the song was released, I still know what the song is about. This is strictly about people who are bad at their jobs, age has no bearing when it comes to idiots. I know plenty of older people in this business who lack any form of enlightenment or ethics.
Is it blood flavored?
I won’t touch that
