How does the referral system work? Should I apply from the website and then ask for a referral or is there a chance to ask for an employee to refer internally? Would the latter option be considered ahead of the first option?

I can't help but notice that the most touted exit opps mentioned here are all 'G&A' positions - S&O, CorpDev, Strat, etc. Aren't these positions the first in line to go come layoff time? Prod Management seems like it would be more insulated from layoff pressure (so long as your P&L is in the black) though even that could come under budgetary pressure.

What would be an example of 'layoff-proof' exit opp?

Received the offer from EY for M role, on call and email on Wednesday and also received a mail from the partner about it. Told them I will be accepting the offer. Had another offer & already received their contract , now I don't want to say no to the other firm before I sign the contract with EY. Which I am being told will only be ready next week. From then i didn't receive any mail from the company, and the status of my application is also unchanged. How do you find a new opportunity after 1 month? What do you put on your resume to avoid immediate rejection? Left a solid long term SR managing role for a more JR sole contributor position because of hiring attorney vision of what we can do together and more money. Less then week into role hiring attorney is gone. Still have the salary increase but am seeing all the reason he (and others) are leaving. Respected company but legal department has issues and no program for promotion.

I’ve always gotten the advice that when you want to switch jobs you should take interviews from places you’re not actually interested in, so you can understand your value in the market and have better negotiating power.
