Would you consider a cheaper island? Crete is super reasonable, a lot of fun and has a brilliant bus system to get around for sightseeing.
Neither of these islands are good for a girls trip esp on a budget. check out nearby like paros or naxos. And do day trip to mykonos or santorini. Both of these 2 islands santorini and mykonos are tourist central and as a result they are ridiculously expensive. I'd also recommend diff islands-- check lefkada (beaches that are other wordly and beat out the 2 islands you mentioned), skiathos (so much fun), rhodes (lots of nightlife too)

What a great trip, makes me reminisce my 20s when I did same trip! I would personally do hotel but compare your options. The islands aren’t as busy as typical years.
In Santorini -Firastefani town, walking distance to all things. Do not stay in Oia, it’s so beautiful but more quiet and romantic type.
Mykonos - stay in the town, so you can walk everywhere. If you stay by the beach, you’ll need to find transportation to town daily and it’s not easy.
Ps make reservations at beach clubs 1+ week in advance, my friends are there now and they were sold out of rezzie.

Btw you could always do 1 night in Paros or Naxos islands, it’s a quick ferry ride between Mykonos and them (Santorini is 3 hrs on ferry from Mykonos, but gorgeous views)
I agree that if you are on a budget Mykonos and Santorini are not the best choices. I also think that Santorini is not the best for girls trips, as it’s a bit more romantic/couply and not as much night life, not the best beaches. Although the caldera is quite remarkable, so worth visiting for a couple of days. In Santorini there are many affordable hotel options, cave-suite style, in Fira or in Imerovigli. In Mykonos I would also stay in a hotel, in Mykonos town/Little Venice.
I’ve been to both islands before on a girls trip (though in the off season) and enjoyed it, I just wasn’t the one to book the hotels that time. We’ve already booked flights and such, would appreciate just accommodation recommendations.
Thanks! Good to hear it’s not as busy as usual, was worried about it being packed given Greece is one of the few open countries.
